Repenting From Christian Nationalism Book Study

Lenten Book Study Series: Repenting from Christian Nationalism

As we journey through Lent, we invite you to engage in a thought-provoking and deeply necessary conversation about the influence of Christian nationalism in American faith and politics. Alongside our 2025 Lenten Worship Series, “Repenting from Christian Nationalism,” we will host a three-part online book study exploring the ways Christian nationalism has distorted the Gospel and shaped our religious and political landscape.

Each book discussion will take place on Monday evenings from 7:00–8:30 PM EST via Zoom, offering space for learning, reflection, and faithful resistance to an ideology that has done harm in Christ’s name.

Book Study Schedule:

Book 1: Baptizing America by Brian Kaylor & Beau Underwood
Mondays, March 10 & March 17

This book examines how mainline Protestant traditions—including our own—have contributed to the rise of Christian nationalism, and what we can do to break free from its influence.

Book 2: The False White Gospel by Jim Wallis
Mondays, March 24 & March 31

Wallis calls out how white Christian nationalism has been used to justify oppression and challenges us to reclaim a faith rooted in truth, justice, and love.

Book 3: The Flag + The Cross by Philip S. Gorski & Samuel L. Perry
Monday, April 14

Gorski and Perry offer a compelling look at how Christian nationalism threatens American democracy and calls people of faith to stand against its spread.
